Ready to Burn is a UK certification scheme run by Woodsure, an independent, not-for-profit organisation that certifies solid fuel for quality and legal compliance. Firewood carrying the Ready to Burn mark has been independently verified to have a moisture content of 20% or less, the threshold the UK government also uses to define firewood that is legal and appropriate to sell for home burning under the Ready to Burn rules that came into effect as part of wider air quality legislation.
Before Ready to Burn, there was no reliable way for a customer to know whether the "seasoned" or "dry" logs they were buying were actually dry. Burning wet wood produces more smoke and particulate pollution, wastes energy driving off moisture instead of producing heat, and causes more tar build-up in chimneys and flues. The scheme gives buyers a simple, independently checked mark to look for instead of taking a seller's word for it.
Our kiln-dried firewood is certified under Woodsure Ready to Burn, certificate number WS721. That means our process and moisture testing have been independently audited against the scheme's standard, and every batch we sell is kiln-dried below the 20% moisture threshold the certification requires, not just a sample or a good batch.
Any firewood seller claiming Ready to Burn certification should be able to give you their certificate number, and you can look up certified suppliers on the Woodsure website.
